Pigeon Cast #1: Playing to type

This week's Paranoid Podcast is on blog themes. Five bloggers tell us about their particular theme tunes. To download a song, click on the song link then click the download now button or for some links scroll to the bottom and click on the "download free" link. And yes...we know a podcast is all in one file, we just didn't have the time this week!:

Floaty Katja of Hi Diddly Dee, An Actor's Life For Me

Climbing Uphill - Norbert Leo Butz (Ed - yes that actually is his name!) and Sherie René Scott

This song comes from The Last Five Years by Jason Robert Brown. It features Cathy, an actress, singing about audition hell and finding the humour in being a small, failing fish in a very big pond: "Stop looking at that, look at me! No, not at my shoes. Don't look at my shoes. I hate these fucking shoes! Why did I pick these shoes? Why did I pick this song? Why did I pick this career?"

Yeah, I've been there.

Cigarette Sigh of Tales From A Town Called Malice

Yuko and Hero (Blur Cover) - Class

This song sums up the contradictions of love: "I never see you. I'll love you forever." I try and make Tales From A Town Called Malice look at the little things in life, incidents and accidents that makes us who we are and that's entirely what this song is about. This cover by Class is a beautiful arrangment, sparse and spare like the best prose. I hope you enjoy it.

Sungirltan of Narcisistics Anonymous...?

My Little Town - Simon and Garfunkel

"Nothing but the dead and dying back in my little town"

In 2004 I left the midlands for greener pastures and less mediocrity. I began the blog at the start of my journey. I think I listened to this song every day for about a year before I decided to go until it got under my skin and pushed all my frustrations to the surface. The line 'after it rains, theres a rainbow, but all of the colours are black, its not that the colours aren't there, its just imagination they lack' seemed to explain all my feelings about my job/friends/etc. It keeps me going and reminds me that we are all responsible for our own happiness.

Amillionpieces of amillionpieces

Is It Wicked Not To Care? - Belle and Sebastian

I have to say, after three and a half years of hanging out on 20six, I think I'm going to go for "Is it wicked not to care" by Belle and Sebastian. Firstly, the line "Is it wicked not to care when youve wasted many hours, Talking endlessly to anyone that's there?" is pretty much spot on, you speak to the most random people while blogging, just because they're there. Add to that the fact that I found out about Belle and Sebastian through blogging, and the fact that Isobel's voice is one of the most beautiful things I ever heard and I had to choose this one.

Fabulous of Fabulous

The Goonies R Good Enough - Cyndi Lauper

Hum, fifty words on why I have chosen my tune: well first off, The Goonies are fabulous. Second - the tune is fabulous. Oh crap, that's twenty two words already. Um well, surely I am good enough and that is what the song is saying. Oh I have used up all my...beeeep.

King Crow of the Paranoid Pigeon

Scarecrow by Beck

To misquote Ray Parker Jnr: "I ain't afraid of no...Scarecrow". I'm King Crow, mysterious and unafraid. At least that's what I like to claim!

The theme of next week's podcast is songs for the world's best "I miss you " mixtape. Send an mp3, your reason and your name and blog to kingofthecrows@gmail.com by Wednesday 17 January.

UPDATE: Simon and Garfunkel link fixed
